Small Group Semester Options

Small Group Reading Intervention
1st/2nd Grade

Schedule:

Thursdays, 4:00-5:00 PM

Our small group classes provide structured, engaging early literacy intervention during the school year. Designed for students reading at approximately a 1st or 2nd-grade level, these 60-minute weekly sessions target foundational reading skills using evidence-based programs such as Heggerty, Orton-Gillingham, and UFLI. Groups include 3–4 students, with a 3-student minimum required to run the class at the discounted small group rate.


🟡 Ideal for: Students who benefit from guided reading intervention, foundational literacy support, and a consistent, nurturing small-group setting. (Not intended for students with IEPs or those working to close a more significant learning gap.)

Designed for students reading at approximately a 3rd or 4th-grade level, these 60-minute weekly sessions focus on building fluency, decoding, spelling, and comprehension using evidence-based programs such as Orton-Gillingham and UFLI. Groups include 3–4 students, with a 3-student minimum required to run the class at the discounted small group rate.

Small Group ELA Intervention
5th/6th Grade

Schedule:

Mondays, 4:45-5:45 PM

Kassie Patterson, M. Ed

This small group class is designed to strengthen upper elementary students’ skills in constructed response writing, spelling, and reading comprehension. Students will learn to use the RACE strategy (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) to craft well-structured responses to text-based questions. Spelling instruction will focus on patterns, word families, and syllable structures, helping students recognize and apply spelling rules effectively. Reading comprehension activities will include strategies such as summarizing, questioning, and visualizing to enhance understanding of texts. Sessions are interactive and supportive, encouraging students to develop confidence and proficiency in ELA skills. Groups include 3–4 students, with a 3-student minimum required to run the class at the discounted small group rate.

🟡 Ideal for: 5th and 6th grade students seeking to improve their ELA skills, particularly in writing structured responses, mastering spelling strategies, and enhancing reading comprehension in a collaborative, small-group setting.

Successful Strategies Group

Schedule:

Mondays at 3:45 PM and 4:45 PM, Tuesdays at 4:45 PM

This academic coaching and study skills support option aids 4th–9th grade students who are semi-independent but benefit from structure, check-ins, and accountability. Focus areas include study habits, organization, project planning, and test preparation—minus the parent-child homework stress.
